Abstract

The main problem in this research is how the mathematical problem solving ability using cooperative learning model type Jigsaw scuare and rectangular material to the students class VII C of SMPK Sta. Familia Sikumana in the school year 2015-2016. This type of research is descriptive qualitative research. Data collection techniques that provide problem solving task ( TPM ) to students, followed by an interview which is based indicators of problem solving ability and further observation and gave question nairies to the learning model used in the learning process. In this research used three subject were selected baased on their level math that students are capable of high mathematics, medium, and low. The selection of research subjects in consultation with subject teachers of mathematics, but not it spite of his mathematical abilities. The result of this research, based on exposure data and research findings, found some similarities and differences in mathematical problem solving abilities among subject with high ability, subject with medium ability, and subject with low ability. As for the similarities of mathematical problem solving ability, among others, subject with high ability and low ability subject with which the subject can meet the indicators of achievement despite the problem solving ability tend to be on the indicators of achievement problem in making a figure or table the subject is still the subject is still not able to. So that subject with a high capacity and capable of being the subject has a math problem solving abilities three subject located on ON is still not capable of solving mathematical problem based on the result of tests on TPM 1 and 2. Based on the result, teachers are expected to give more attention of students with low ability in solving mathematical problems and used appropriate learning models in learning to help students in solving mathematical problems.
