Abstract

Mathematics communication plays an important role in learning mathematics. Due to the communication of mathematics students can use mathematical language to express ideas and ideas math correctly, helps clarify an understanding that can solve mathematical problems that occur in everyday life. Meanwhile, differences in mathematical ability of students, allowing for the difference of their mathematical communication in solving mathematical problems. The purpose of this study to describe the mathematics communication of high school students in solving problems of mathematical statistics based on the ability of high, medium and low. This study is a qualitative research conducted in English class XI SMA Muhammadiyah Kupang. Subjects in this study were three students consisting of one student high mathematical ability, mathematical ability of students and the students who were less capable. The results showed capable students math high capable states mathematical ideas orally, in writing or visually (diagram) even though they misrepresented or express mathematical ideas visually (diagram), capable of interpreting (interpreting) and evaluate mathematical ideas both orally and in writing, were able to use terms and mathematical symbols into the mathematical model correctly solve a problem of statistics. Students are capable of mathematics was less able to express mathematical ideas orally, in writing or visually (diagram), less capable of interpreting (interpreting) and evaluate mathematical ideas both orally and in writing, are less able to use terms and symbols mathematics into a mathematical model correctly solve a problem of statistics. While the low math ability students are less able to express mathematical ideas orally, in writing or visually (diagram), less capable of interpreting (interpreting) and evaluate mathematical ideas both orally and in writing and have not been able to use the terminology and symbolism mathematical symbols into the mathematical model correctly solve a problem of statistics.
