Abstract

The main problem in this research is how students' mathematical communication skills through learning model Think Talk Write sub subject circumference and area of a rectangle and a square in the class VII of SMPK St. Theresia Disamakan Kupang in the school year 2015/2016. Type of this research is descriptive qualitative research. By collecting data, implementing the learning process, and then continued gave the test about ability of students’ mathematical communication, followed by an interview conducted based on the interview guides prepared in accordance indicators of the ability of mathematical communication students and on the last stage to make observations on any workmanship subjects carried out in conformity with the observation sheet of students. In this study, used three subjects were selected based on the level of mathematical skills that students are capable of high mathematics, medium, and low. The subject of this study is also following consultations with subject teacher of mathematic. The results of this study, based on exposure data and research findings on all three subjects, we can conclude that subject with high math ability (DAA), have good communication skills mathematically, because the subject is able to meet all four indicators mathematical communication skills. This suggests that the learning model Think Talk Write used in the learning process with the material circumference and area of a rectangle and a square help the subject to meet the four indicators mathematical communication skills. This also applies similar in subjects with medium mathematical abilities (TA) who have good mathematical communication skills. It also shows that the learning model Think Talk Write used in the learning process with the material circumference and area of a rectangle and a square help the subjects to meet the four indicators mathematical communication skills. This differs from the subject who had lower math skills (MAW), has a mathematical communication skill is poor. This show that the learning model Think Talk Write used in the learning process with the material circumference and area of a rectangle and a square not help the subject to meet the four indicators mathematical communication skills. Based on these results, it is expected that teachers pay more attention to students who have a low level of mathematical ability. In this case the teacher should take steps or appropriate learning models to help improve students' mathematical communication.
