Abstract

The underlying question in this research is how the students' ability in solving the story in terms of levels of thinking subjects Circle. The purpose of this research is to describe the ability of students in solving the story in terms of the level. The benefits of this research is to become an input for teachers in implementing the teaching and learning activities in order to take certain measures to enhance the students' ability in solving word problems. Research was conducted on students of class VIII B of SMP Angkasa Kupang second semester 2015/2016 academic year which amounted to 29 students, and who is the subject of this research are three students, selected based on the level of thinking. The results showed that students who had low levels of thinking in solving the story on the subject of the circle is not good because the students are only able to read something and understand the purpose of a matter of course, but not able to formulate a strategy and do the problems well and are not able to conclude the answer is done. Students who have a moderate level of thinking in solving the story on the subject of the circle either because the students are only able to read something and understand the purpose of a matter, and to develop strategies and work on the problems, but were unable to conclude an answer appropriately. While the students who have high-level thinking in solving the story on the subject of the circle is very good because the students are able to read something and understand the purpose of a matter, strategize and do the problems correctly and to be able to conclude with the right answer. Based on these results, it is expected that teachers of mathematics SMP Angkasa Kupang further enhance the students' ability in solving the subject of the story circle with lots provide practice questions, especially on the material.
