Abstract
Toto molas is one of the traditional events of the Manggarai Regency which is locatedinthe western part of the island of Flores. Toto in the local language means pointingorshowing, while molas means beautiful. The toto molas (showing beauty) event is carriedout before the wife-to-be is sent to the male family. This dance is lifted fromthe customof the Manggarai people which tells about a girl who gives up her youth and is readytotake on a new life. The original variety of movements in the Toto Molas dance onlyusesthe same form of motion and seems monotonous, so young people are rarely interested. In this case, the researcher is interested in introducing the various movements of the TotoMolas dance created by the Manggarai ethnic group through the imitation anddrill method to the fourth semester students of dance interest in Music Education, UnwiraKupang. The main problem in this research is how efforts are being made to increasethevariety of Toto Molas dance movements created by the Manggarai ethnic group throughimitation and drill methods for students interested in dance in the fourth semester ofMusic Education, Unwira Kupang. The purpose of this study was to determine the useofdrill and imitation methods in increasing the variety of Toto Molas dance creations inthefourth semester students of dance interest in the Music Education Study Program, Unwira Kupang. This research is descriptive qualitative and the method used is fieldaction. Data collection techniques in the form of observation, interviews anddocumentation. The results showed that efforts to increase the variety of TotoMolasdance movements created by the Manggarai ethnic group through imitation anddrill methods for students interested in dance in the fourth semester of Music Education, Unwira Kupang, were carried out in 3 (three) stages. In the initial stage, the researchersrecruited members of the dance interest group in the Music Education Study Programand selected the training schedule. The core stage of the researcher provides an original picture of the Toto Molas dance and then introduces the various movements andfloorpatterns of the Toto Molas dance that have been created. The final stage is a danceperformance. Based on the results of the study, it was concluded that in the researchprocess, the researchers found several obstacles, namely most of the dancers foundit difficult to demonstrate the variety of movements taught by the researchers and thelackof body flexibility, but these problems can be overcome by using imitation anddrill methods
