Abstract

This research is a qualitative research that aims to analyze the difficulties in learning mathematics of junior high school students in the circle material. The indicators of learning difficulties consist of three types, namely: difficulties in using concepts, difficulties in using principles, and difficulties in solving verbal problems. The subjects in this study consisted of three students with high, medium, and low mathematical abilities. Research subjects were also selected according to the results of discussions between mathematics teachers and researchers. Collecting data in the form of written test results and interview results based on indicators of student difficulty. Credible research data obtained by time triangulation method. Data analysis was carried out in three stages, namely data reduction, data presentation and data inference. The results of the study concluded that subjects with high mathematical abilities had no difficulty in solving problems. Subjects who are capable of mathematics are having difficulty in solving verbal problems. Low subjects have difficulty in understanding mathematical concepts, using mathematical principles and difficulty in solving verbal problems.
