Abstract

Desiderius Metan (8112191009MM), Master of Management Study Program with the research title: "Analysis of Factors Affecting Soft Skills with Problem Based Learning as Intervening Variable for Philosophy Students at Widya Mandira Catholic University Kupang". This thesis is guided by Dr. Ruminah, MM as the first supervisor and Jou Sewa Adrianus, SE, MM as the second supervisor. This research was conducted because soft skills are an aspect dominates the demands of the job market and also there is an assessment from graduate users on the soft skills competence of graduates of the Philosophy Study Program which is considered to be lacking so that it needs to be improved. The aims of this study are (1) to determine the significance of the effect of student organizations and learning environment on problem based learning (Y1) and the effect of the three as variable X on soft skills (Y2) of students of the Philosophy Study Program. (2) To determine the significance of the influence of student organizations and the learning environment through problem based learning as an intermediary variable on the soft skills of students of the Philosophy Study Program. The data analysis technique uses inferential statistics with Smart PLS 3.0 software. Inferential statistical test results (direct effect): student organization variables and learning environment have a positive and significant effect on the problem based learning variable (Y1). The problem based learning variable as variable X has a positive and significant effect on the soft skills of students of the Philosophy Study Program. The student organization variable has a negative and insignificant effect on the student's soft skills variable. The learning environment variable has a positive and significant effect on the soft skills of students in the Philosophy Study Program. The results of the inferential statistical test (indirect effect) show that the student organization variable has a negative and insignificant effect on the soft skills variable through problem based learning, because the t-statistic value obtained is 1.669 < 1.96 and a significant level of 0.091> 0.05. While the learning environment variable has a positive and significant effect on the soft skills variable through problem based learning with a t-statistic value of 2.460 > 1.96 and a significant level of 0.014 < 0.05. Therefore, it is suggested that the Philosophy Study Program should give more attention to student organizations through programs that directly touch the talents, interests and skills of students. Lecturers need to increase their role as facilitators in learning activities through the PBL model. Many aspects of soft skills can be obtained by students such as communication and leadership skills, team work and networking skills, stress and time management skills, and problem solver skills.
