Abstract

This research aims to determine whether or not the influence of the verbal and numerical ability partially or simultaneously to the mathematic learning achievement of grade VII students of SMPN 9 East Kupang. The population in this research is entire of class VII that consist 125 students and as many as 5 classes with one class is used as a sample by using the simple random sampling technique. The type of this research used is quantitative research. Statistical analysis that used multiple regression analysis use SPSS 22.0 for windows. The result of hypothesis test (1) there is a partially significant influence of the verbal ability to the mathematic learning achievement of grade VII students of SMPN 9 East Kupang, as evidenced by the value of tcount = 2,712 > ttable = 2,07961, then rejected H0; (2) there is a partially significant influence of the numerical ability to the mathematic learning achievement of grade VII students of SMPN 9 East Kupang, as evidenced by the value of tcount = 2,205 > ttable = 2,07961, then rejected H0; (3) there is a significant influence simultaneously of the verbal and numerical ability to the mathematic learning achievement of grade VII students of SMPN 9 East Kupang, as evidenced by the value of Fcount = 7,400 > Ftable= 3,47, then rejected H0. Based on the results of the research, the researcher concludes that there is a significant influence of verbal and numerical ability either partially or simultaneously to the mathematic learning achievement of grade VII students of SMPN 9 East Kupang. The author‟s suggestion for students, to be more diligent in learning as well as improve their verbal skills and numerical abilities from themselves and for mathematics teachers, in order to increase the verbal and numerical ability of students in learning in the classroom so that can reach maximum learning achievement.
