Abstract

This study is entitled “A STUDY ON SPEAKING ABILITY OF THE TENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMA KATOLIK ANDALURI IN THE SCHOOL YEAR 2017/2018”. It aims to answer the following questions: (1) Are the tenth grade students of SMA Katolik Andaluri Waingapu in the school year 2017/2018 able to speak about the movie they watch? (2) What is the speaking ability level of the tenth grade students of SMA Katolik Andaluri Waingapu in the shool year 2017/2018? The objectives of this study are (1) To find out if the tenth grade students of SMA Katolik Andaluri Waingapu in the school year 2017/2018 are able to speak about the movie they watch. (2) To find out the level of ability of the tenth grade students of SMA Katolik Andaluri Waingapu in the school year 2017/2018. In order to solve these problems, the writer used descriptive method. This method was used because the aim of the study was to describe the speaking ability level of the tenth grade students of SMA Katolik Andaluri Waingapu. The subjects of the study were ten students of SMA Katolik Andaluri Waingapu. The result of the research shows that in general the tenth grade students of SMA Katolik Andaluri Waingapu were able to speak English after they watch movie with correct pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary and fluency. The level of speaking ability of the tenth grade students of SMA Katolik Andaluri Waingapu is Advance (16,4). Based on the result of the study, the writer would like to suggest that the English teacher of SMA Katolik Andaluri should encourage the students to speak well and to correct their grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary and fluency. And the tenth grade students of SMA Katolik Andaluri Waingapu should improve their sub-skills (grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, fluency) and the students should frequently listen to English song and English movie because by listening English song and English movie the students will know how to speak in English with good pronunciation.
