Abstract

This study is entitled “A Study On The Reading Comprehension Ability On The Eleventh Grade Student of SMA Swasta Terakreditasi PGRI Kupang in The School Year 2017/2018”. This study was conducted to answer the following questions: 1.Are the eleventh grade students of SMA Swasta Terakreditasi PGRI Kupang in the school year 2017/2018 able to comprehend the narrative text they have read? 2. What is their compriehension ability level of the eleventh grade students of SMA Swasta Terakreditasi PGRI Kupang in the school year 2017/2018 reading the narrative text?. The objectives of the study are: 1. To find out whether or not the eleventh grade students of SMA Swasta Terakreditasi PGRI Kupang able to comprehend the narrative text they have read. 2. To find out the ability level of the eleventh grade students of SMA Swasta Terakreditasi PGRI Kupang in reading narrative text. In this study the writer used normative survey method. The study was conducted in SMA Swasta Terakreditasi PGRI Kupang. The instrument used in getting the data was a test consisting of multiple choice tests, with the total number of test items was (30). The result of study shows that (1) The eleventh grade student of SMA Swasta Terakreditasi PGRI Kupang in the School Year 2017/2018 are able to understand the text they read and (2) their level of ability is fairly good (6.905). Based on the result of the study, the writer would like to give some suggestions for the English teacher and the students in researched school, (1) For the writer should pay attention about the teaching material and for the writer should have many resources especially in reading comprehension. (2) For the English teacher, should pay more attention to the students knowledge about grammar because based on the answer given by the students in their answer sheet, the writer found some grammatical errors.(3) For the researched school should decided an English day for the students to improve the students mastery on the vocabulary used in reading text. (4) For the students must be study, so they can have attention to learn English. By doing this the students are expected to master the reading text of the English sentence helpful for the students to enrich their vocabulary and to communicated in English well with other people in their daily life.
