Abstract

This study is entitled “An Analysis on Grammatical Errors in Writing Recount Text of the Eleventh Grade Students of SMAN 1 Kupang in the School Year 2020/2021”. It was conducted to answer the following questions: (1). What are the kinds of grammatical errors made in recount text by the eleventh grade students of SMAN 1 Kupang? (2). What is the most common error committed by the eleventh grade students of SMAN 1 Kupang? The objectives of the study are to identify the grammatical errors made by the eleventh grade students of SMAN 1 Kupang and to find out the most common error committed by the eleventh grade students of SMAN 1 Kupang. The subject of the study were 24 students from Natural Science Program (IV) of eleventh grade students. In getting the data, the writer used descriptive qualitative. The method aims to describe and analyze the errors made by the students. The writer gave three topics and students had to choose one of them to construct into a good recount text. The result of this study are: (1). The errors made by the students were omission 19 (27,14%), addition 15(21,42%), misformation 31(44,28%) and misordering 5(7,14%). (2) The most common error committed by the students is misformation with 31 sentences (44,28%). Based on the result of the data analysis, the writer suggests (1). The teacher should give more emphasis on grammatical aspect especially in using simple past tense, subject and verb agreement, using modal and pronoun, article and preposition also how to make a good sentence because the students still lack of knowledge in these part. (2). The eleventh grade students of SMAN 1 Kupang should learn more how to write a good text and focused on grammar especially about tenses.
