Abstract

This study is entitled “AN ANALYSIS ON TEXT TRANSLATED FROM BAHASA INDONESIA INTO ENGLISH BY THE ELEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMK NEGERI 1 ATAMBUA IN THE SCHOOL YEAR 2020/2021”. This study was conducted to answer the following questions : 1). Is the translation from Bahasa Indonesian into English done by the eleventh grade students of SMK Negeri 1 Atambua in the school year 2020/2021 good or bad? 2). What are the areas of difficulties faced by the eleventh grade students of SMK Negeri 1 Atambua in the school year 2020/2021 in translating a text from Bahasa Indonesian into English? In line with the problem statements, this study is carried out to gain the following objectives: 1). To know whether the translation from Bahasa Indonesian into English done by the eleventh grade students of SMK Negeri 1 Atambua in the School year 2020/2021 is good or bad. 2). To find out the areas of difficulties faced by the eleventh grade students of the SMK Negeri 1 Atambua in the school year 2020/2021 in translating a text from Bahasa Indonesia into English. The method used in this study is descriptive method. This method is employed to clarify the problems of the study and to describe the result of the study. The subject of the study is the eleventh grade students of SMK Negeri 1 Atambua in the school year 2020/2021. There were 10 students taken from XI Multimedia program. The result of analysis shows that the translation of the students as class is classified as a good translation. In fact, there are 339 (78.94%) of the total 190 sentences are correct while 40 (10.52%) others are incorrect sentences. The difficulties faced by the students occur vocabulary, grammar, and auxiliary verb. Based on this result, some suggestions can be given by the writer are follows: 1.) The teacher of English should give more emphasis in teaching the English Vocabulary and the students are expected to memorize those English words which are related to the study.2) In teaching English, the teacher should give more exercise to the students in translating a text at least one topic every English meeting from Bahasa Indonesia into English. 3). For the students, they are expected to learn more about translation, vocabulary and grammar, particularly the use of proper tense, auxiliary verb. Many students did mistakes concerning these parts of grammar.
