Abstract

This thesis is entitled Community Participation in Improving Education through Wuat Wa,i Customs in Wontong Village, Macang Pacar District, West Manggarai Regency. This research focuses on three formulations of problems, namely How to Participate in Improving Education through Wuat Wa,i Customs in Wontong Village, Macang Pacar District, West Manggarai Regency. The method used in this study is qualitative descriptive, while the data collection technique is by interview, observation, and documentation. The sampling technique used is purpove sampling with 5 people from this study. This research refers to the theory of community participation from Meronda M. (2021). That community participation consists of 4 stages, namely planning participation, participation in implementation, participation in monitoring and evaluation, and participation in the utilization of results. Based on the results of research in the field wuat wa,i is one type of traditional Manggarai ritual that aims to provide provisions ( teing buttocks) for everyone who wants to go to a distant place, especially to fight for fate, either in the form of continuing education, or going abroad. The implementation of wuat wa,i events is carried out at night, and involves the nuclear family and invites extended family and neighbors. Family members present often give some money spontaneously. This is a form of community participation in supporting those who want to continue their education. The advice in this study is expected to the residents of Wontong Village to remain concerned and active in the implementation of the wuat wa,i tradition, because in the implementation of the wuat wa,i tradition cannot be separated from community participation, therefore it is necessary for community participation in the wuat wa,i event.
