Abstract
It is conducted to answer the following questions: (1) What is the ability level of the eighth grade students of SMPK Sta. Familia Kupang in pronouncing the irregular verbs? (2) Are the students of SMPK Sta. Familia Kupang able to pronounce the irregular verbs? (3) What are the difficulties faced by the eighth grade students of SMPK sta. Familia Kupang in pronouncing the irregular verbs?. The objective of this study are to know the ability level of the eighth grade students of SMPK Sta. Familia Kupang in pronouncing the irregular verbs. To find out whether the students of SMPK Sta. Familia are able to pronounce the irregular verbs and to know the difficulties faced by the eighth grade students of SMPK Sta. Familia in pronouncing the irregular verbs. The subject of this study are 20 students in VIII A. In getting the data, the writer obtained the words of irregular verbs. These irregular verbs were given to the students to be pronounced. As the students pronounced those verbs the writer did recording, and the time allocation for the test ads 80 minutes . The result of this study are (1)The ability level of the eighth grade students of SMPK Sta. Familia is 93.9%. It is classified as very good. (2)The eighth grade students of SMPK Sta. Familia are able to pronounce the English irregular verbs. (3)Although the class ability is high, there are some difficulties faced by the students of SMPK Sta. Familia they felt difficult in pronouncing: awoke, bite, cost, left, shake, shoot, wear, and wrung. Based on the result of data analysis the writer suggests: (1)To the writer: Seeing the result of this study above the writer is motivated to study hard about English grammar, pronunciations, vocabulary and try to get a good way of how to solve student’s problem in pronounce. (2)To the students :Students are expected wisely to practice more to improve their pronunciation skill.(3)To the English Teacher: The role of the teacher in the classroom is the most important thing than anything else, therefore in order to make students more active in the classroom, teacher should give a great support like listening to the English songs, watching movie etc. Then, it can increase their ability in pronunciation.
