Abstract
Mangroves are plants that have a special ability to adapt to unstable or extreme environmental conditions, such as waterlogged soil conditions, high salt levels and unstable soil conditions. Currently, the existence of mangroves in NTT, especially in West Manggarai district, has decreased due to the fact that some areas have changed their functions. The area of mangrove forests in West Manggarai Regency itself reaches 7,810 ha or 19.22% of the mangrove forest area in NTT, of which most of them are also under pressure, thus reducing the quality of the mangrove ecosystem. The purpose of this study is to find out the types of mangroves in the coastal area of Nanga Kantor Village, Macang Pacar District and to find out the density of mangroves in the coastal area of West Nanga Kantor Village, Macang Pacar District. The methods used in this study are quantitative descriptive and data or sample collection using the exploration method with purposive sampling techniques. The data analysis in this study is a descriptive analysis to identify mangroves and analyze the area of mangrove cover using NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index). The results of the study obtained the types of vegetation that make up the mangrove ecosystem in the coastal area of West Nanga Kantor Village, as many as 12 species of mangroves divided into 8 families. The largest family that dominates the mangrove area in West Nanga Kantor Village is Rhizophoraceae which consists of five types. The most commonly found species is Rhizophora apiculata. The results of the mangrove density analysis using NDVI in the coastal area of West Nanga Kantor Village are categorized into 3 levels, namely rare mangroves, medium mangroves, and tight mangroves. Medium mangroves are the most dominating category of the three level categories with a value range of 0.33 < NDVI < 0.42 and a percentage of cover area of 55%.
