Abstract

The demand for fuel as a dependent variable, the independent variable is price and income. The formulation of the problem in this study is (1) Does the price affect the demand for fuel oil? (2) Does income affect the demand for fuel? The purpose of this study is (1) To determine the effect of prices on the demand for fuel oil and (2) To determine the effect of income on the demand for fuel oil. This study uses a type of quantitative data because in its implementation includes data, analysis and interpretation of the meaning of the data obtained, the source of data used is primary data using a list of statements (questionnaires). The population in this study are all people of Kupang City who have two-wheeled vehicles . The sample was determined by 50 people, with the sampling technique using accidental sampling. Data is processed using descriptive statistical analysis and inferential analysis. The analytical tool used in this study is SMART Partial Least Square (PLS). From the results of the descriptive study, it is explained that if oil fuels increase in price, the people will continue to buy them because fuel oil is a basic necessity for people who own motorcycle vehicles. Low people's income makes people have to use low-quality fuel oil with low prices, namely premium. If there is an increase in income, the people will switch to using better quality fuels at higher prices, namely pertalite and pertamax. The bootstrapping test results show prices and revenues have a significant effect on the demand for fuel oil. The R- Square value is 0.62 which means that 62 % of the demand variable is influenced by the price variable and the demand variable and 38 % is influenced by other variables outside the research. Based on the results of the study it was suggested to the community to use fuel oil wisely and to the government to be able to overcome the income gap.
