Abstract
Honey has been known for a long time as a sweetener and is widely known by people in the world, including Indonesia, there are two ways of managing honey, namely modern and traditional ways. The traditional way is very attached to local wisdom. Loli Village is one of the most honey-producing areas in the South Central Timor Regency area. Honey management in South Timor is still using traditional methods, which are inherited from generation to generation by their ancestors. The purpose of this study is to find out how to harvest forest honey bees (Apis dorsata) based on local wisdom in the community of Loli Village, Polen District, South Central Timor Regency. Data collection uses observation methods, semi-structured interviews and documentation. The data obtained were analyzed in a qualitative descriptive manner. The results of the interviews show that the method of harvesting forest honey bees (Apis dorsata) still uses traditional methods. "Hel oni" is one of the traditional rituals that are carried out before and after harvesting. According to the local community, the Hel oni traditional ceremony before harvest is believed that honey bees (Apis dorsata) will arrive and nest on trees around the forest area. While the traditional ceremony "Hel oni" after harvesting aims to give thanks for the blessings received in this case honey. Honey harvesting begins with the preparation of tools to be used, namely ladders (elak), machetes (suni), coconut fiber (punuf), buckets, and ropes (tani). Special people who are in charge of climbing trees directly climb trees using ladders, on top of the climbing trees use coconut fiber (punuf) to do smoking while singing verses that aim to drive the bees out of their hives, after that the climbers immediately cut the beehives and store them in a bucket that has been tied with a rope (farmer), then the bucket containing honey slabs is lowered down. After harvesting, the honey is immediately brought home for processing. Processing begins by squeezing honey into a basin to separate the honey from its contents, then the honey is filtered to be put into a jerry can that has been prepared. The honey produced is used by the community to be traded, then the proceeds from the sale of honey are used to meet daily needs. The conclusion is that honey harvesting is carried out by traditional traditional procedures involving the community, the village government and traditional leaders with their respective roles and duties.
