Abstract

This study aims to describe the profile of class VIII students in understanding the concept of rotation at SMP Negeri 5 Kupang. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. The time for conducting research is in the odd semester of the 2022/2023 school year. The subjects in this study were taken by 3 students with high, medium and low academic ability from class VIII. This ability is seen based on the results of daily mathematics tests. Data collection techniques using tests, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques were carried out in three stages, namely data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that students with high mathematical abilities fulfilled the indicators of understanding the problem, presenting concepts in various forms of mathematical representation, applying concepts or algorithms in problem solving. Students who have moderate mathematical abilities fulfill indicators of understanding questions, presenting concepts in various forms of mathematical representations, applying concepts or algorithms in problem solving. Meanwhile students who have low mathematical abilities are less able to understand indicators of understanding questions, presenting concepts in various forms of mathematical representations, applying concepts or algorithms in problem solving
