Abstract

This research explores the efforts and policies implemented by the Indonesian Government in dealing with the smuggling of illegal goods in border areas. This study uses normative juridical methods to analyze legal norms and applicable laws and regulations. The research results show that the smuggling of illegal goods is driven by various factors, including differences in prices and tariffs between countries, economic profits, lack of supervision and law enforcement, and socio-economic conditions in border areas. These factors are interrelated and create an environment that supports smuggling activities. For example, significant differences in the prices of goods between neighboring countries encourage individuals to smuggle goods from countries with lower prices to countries with higher prices. In addition, limited resources and personnel in border areas often result in weak supervision and law enforcement, while corruption among law enforcement and customs officials exacerbates this problem. To overcome this problem, the government has implemented various policies which include strengthening supervision and law enforcement, coordination between agencies, international cooperation, community empowerment, as well as developing comprehensive and adaptive policies and regulations. This policy also includes providing incentives to communities who help uncover smuggling cases and active participation of local communities as monitors and informants.Research and development continues to be carried out to improve strategies and tactics in tackling the smuggling of illegal goods. The government also shows its commitment to maintaining state security and protecting the public from the threat of illegal goods through firm actions and joint operations. By implementing effective policies, it is hoped that smuggling of illegal goods can be minimized, so that economic, social and state security stability can be maintained.
