Abstract

I-mguage is the play of verbal symbols that are based in imagery. The system of lexicogrammar is re of many plays of verbal symbols in language that are based in imagery. To see the pas! the tr€s€rtrt, and the future times of the Manggaraian Speech Commrmity (MSC) is expressed hicogrammatically in Manggaraian Language (ML). Such lexicogrammatical system is based in fre culhral imagery ofthe MSC. Various lexicons used to show the pas! the present and the future h ML bear a number of cultural imageries. (1) To show the past time the lexicon oze 'inside' is usd for example, one sua two days ago', one pitu 'seven days ago', etc. The past time is seen as smefhing having been put inside, in the bo>r, for example. Something put in fte box cannot be moved It means that the past carurot be changed- It is also shown by the lexicon o/o 'in front of for the longer past time period for exarrplE one mingu olo'last week', ane wulang o/o 'last month', qE ttalng olo 'lantyear' . Something standing or put in front can be clearly sesn. It means that the past is something clearly seen in the sense that it has been historically experienced, known, (2) To show the present timethe letoconln'o 'this'is used, for example, /eso l:ar'o'this dxyltoday',minggoha b'thisweek' ,wulangho b'thismonth',ntaungln'o othisyear'.Thepresent time is seen as something standing near to the speaker. Someflring near is clearly seen in the sense 6d it is still stepped on, experienced. (3) To show the future time the lexicon rzzsl 'behind/at the back' is use4 for example, minggu rtusi'nertweek', wul*tg mttsi "textmonfll', ntatmg musi 're:rt year'. The future time is seen as something put behind- Something put behind cannot be seen. h means that the future cannot be seen in the sense that it cannot be predicted, or unknown. It figues out the limitedness of human being especially the MSC in conftolling the future'
