Abstract

Syntacticalty and semantically, there are four kinds of nominal markers (NMs) of Manggaraian Language (ML). NMs in the forms of personal pronouns (PP): hau 'you SC', hia/hi 'he/she', meu 'you-PLUR', and ise 'they' mark proper nouns (PN) as the SubjecUAgent or Object/Patient bearing rhe rneaning of subject or object. NMs in the forms of de/di/dise mark the noun (CN, PP, PN) as the possessor of the possessive noun bearing the rneaning of possession. NMs in the fonns of le/lillise mark the noun (CN, PP, PN) as the agent diathesis of an action targeted to a noun as the patient diathesis bearing the meaning of an agent diathesis. And NMs in the forms of ge/gilgise mark the noun (CN, PP, PN) added/grouped to another noun or becorne the targetllocality of an action taking place bearing the meaning of additionigrouping or the targeUlwality." of an action. The four NMs are grouped into two based on the noun marked, i.e, Common Nominal Markers (CNM), covering de, le, and ge and Proper Norninal Markers (PNM), covering NMs in the forms of PB PNM of possessive di/dise, PNM of agent diathesis li/lise, and PNM of combirre/targeted gilgise. The four PNMs are also grouped into two based on the number of the proper noun (PN) **t"a, i.e the singular PNM: hau, hia/hi, di, li, gi, and the plural FNM: meu, ise, dise, lise gise.The NMS of ML bears a number of cultural imageries: differentiation, animacy, honorific. LtiOarity, identity, prestige, democracy, and work. Initial consonant, especially in proper names is consiJered impolite, cruel, strong energetic, while initial vowels polite or gentl€'
