Abstract

This study aims to describe the profile of students' mathematical problem solving ability on SPLDV material based on Polya's steps. This type of research is qualitative research. The subjects in this study were 3 students of class VIII B SMPK St. Familia. Subjects were selected based on the results of the problem solving ability test on SPLDV material. The instrument used in this study is a problem solving test totaling 2 questions, after being given the test, an interview is then conducted with the subject to further explore the problem solving ability of students and clarify the results that have been written. The results of this study are high ability students are able to carry out all stages of problem solving based on Polya, namely understanding the problem, making a plan, implementing the plan with the right solution steps and checking back. Students of medium ability in problem solving based on Polya's steps only carry out 2 stages of problem solving, namely being able to understand the problem, make a plan but not maximally, but have not been able to carry out the solution plan correctly because they are still mistaken in the calculation operation and have not been able to carry out the stages of checking back. Low ability students in problem solving based on Polya's steps only carry out 1 stage of problem solving, namely being able to understand the problem, make a plan but not maximally, not yet able to carry out the plan.
