Abstract

This study aims to describe the metacognitive profile of students with high, medium, and low mathematical abilities in solving the tangent line problem as seen from the metacognitive polya stages of understanding problems, planning, implementing plans, and evaluating. This type of research is qualitative description. The research implementation time is in the odd semester of the 2021/2022 academic year. The subjects in this study were class XI SMA Sint. Carolus Kupang, totaling 20 students. Data collection techniques using the methods of tests, interviews, observation, and documentation. The data analysis technique was carried out in three stages, namely data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that students had high mathematical abilities at the stages of understanding the problem, planning, implementing plans, and evaluating. Students who have moderate mathematics are at the stage of understanding the problem, while students are lacking in planning, implementing plans, and evaluating. Meanwhile, students who have low mathematical abilities are less at the stage of understanding the problem, planning, implementing plans, and evaluating.
