Abstract

This study aims to improve public speaking skills and self-confidence of students at Sekolah Dasar Katolik Witihama through training conducted using the PAR (Participatory Action Research) method. This method involves active participation from teachers and students in the training process, which lasted for 4 months, from September to December, involving around 150 students. The training stages include preparation, implementation, and evaluation. In the preparation stage, coordination with the school, program socialization, and inspection of supporting facilities such as microphones, pointers, computers/laptops, projectors, and software were carried out. The implementation stage includes providing materials, practicing public speaking, and giving feedback to students. The training was conducted offline to ensure effectiveness in the psychological condition of students. The results showed that students' public speaking skills increased significantly after attending the training. Students who were initially passive became more confident in appearing in public, and the quality of their presentations improved in terms of clarity, intonation, and body language. The offline method proved effective in increasing student participation and understanding. The advantages of this training include increased active participation of students and strong support from the school, although there were challenges in terms of resource requirements and some students still feeling nervous. With further adjustments and development, this program has the potential to provide a greater and sustainable impact for students at Sekolah Dasar Katolik Witihama and other schools.
