Abstract

Nagekeo Language is ane of the main local languages spoken by people iru many districts of Ngekeo Regenqt, East Nusa Tenggara Pravince. It has 22 dialects' It has unique linguistic features in terms of saund symbolism. Sound symbolism is verbal symbols that link conceptaal units of sound to utrits of meaning. One example is the word (t) pui [pu?i] 'to pluck or to pick sontething', (2) bui [bu?i] 'the condition of soruerhing that has been plucked ar picked" and (3) phui [phu?i] 'the chunk of something that has been plucked or picked'. These three words hqve related concoptual units of saunds and relaterJ units of meanings. This is the linguistic phenomenon of sound symbolism in Nagekeo Language. This sound symbolism is a kind af lexicogrammatical system in Ntgekeo Lanyage. Sound symbolism is one of many plays of verbal symbols in language that are based in imagery. There are many words in Nagekeo Langtage that undergo this kind af : linguistic features. What those words are, how they are formed, and what their meanings are as decided by the cultural imagery af the Nagekeo speakers is the ideal aim of presenting this article' So, tf the readers would like to know further this linguistic phenomenott read the whole body of this article.
