Abstract
This research aims to determine students' learning obstacles in matrix material. Participants in this research were class XI IPS2 students at SMA N 1 Amfoang Timur and mathematics subject teachers. This research uses qualitative methods, the Didactical Design Research (DDR) model and triangulation techniques (interviews, observation and documentation). Data collection techniques in this research used interviews, observation, documentation and tests. This research uses three stages of analysis, namely, prospective analysis (pre-learning observation), metapedadidactic analysis (learning observation), and retrospective analysis (post- learning observation). Data is analyzed to determine learning obstacles that occur in students. The research results show that students experience three learning barriers which include ontogenic barriers, didactic barriers and epistemological barriers.
