Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the water application methods for shallot cultivation in Leowalu Village, Lamaknen Subdistrict, Belu Regency. The main issue faced by local farmers is the low irrigation efficiency, which significantly affects crop productivity, especially during the dry season. The research employed an observational and quantitative approach using primary data from field observations and farmer interviews, as well as secondary data from relevant agencies. An evaluation of the existing irrigation system—primarily surface irrigation—was conducted, along with simulations of three irrigation methods (surface, sprinkler, and drip) using the CROPWAT version 8.0 software. The results indicated that drip irrigation achieved the highest efficiency (90%), conserving water and improving yields compared to other methods. In contrast, surface irrigation showed the lowest efficiency, with significant water losses due to percolation and evaporation. This study recommends the adoption of modern irrigation technologies adapted to local conditions to enhance water-use efficiency and increase shallot crop productivity.
