Abstract

This study was conducted to answer the following question: What is the form of Plural Marking System in Uab Meto spoken in Numponi East Malaka? This study has been conducted to find out the form of the plural marking. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method. The data were collected from the three informants. The instruments that the writer used in this research were list of elicitation sentences. The data were analyzed based on forms. The result of this study showed that there are two kinds of plural marking of Uab Meto spoken in Numponi East Malaka. The morphemes {-nonand –on} are the syntactic collocation of plural marked nouns of Uab Meto spoken in Numponi, the words ia/nae„these/those‟ can collocate with plural nouns, it denotes and the plural numbers two „nua’and up. Lastly, the writer suggested that he should do continued study to confirm and elaborate the linguistic evidence in the plural marking system of Uab Meto spoken in Numponi East Malaka. The English learners from Uab Meto ethnic group are expected to make use of English as instrument for promoting Uab Meto culture especially plural marking system of Uab Meto spoken in Numponi which hadbeen resulted from this research. The writer also suggested that the local government of Malaka Regency and the Central Government of Republic of Indonesia prepare funds for the comprehensive study of Uab Meto. So that, the plural marking system of Uab Meto spoken in Numponi can be maintained and developed.
