Abstract

Microbes are a collection of microorganisms that have a very small size and cannot be seen in plain sight. Microbes can be used as waste degradation, one of which is detergent waste. The purpose of this study to examine the potential of cellulolytic microorganisms isolates in degrading laundry detergent waste. From the isolation results, 17 bacterial isolates were obtained, the isolates were then characterized by screening on CMC differential media which were dripped with congo red to see the degradation activity of cellulose. The screening results obtained 9 isolates which were cellulolytic positive marked by the presence of clear zones formed on the CMC media. Identification of selected isolates was determined by microscopic observation, biochemical testing, and physiological testing. Determination of the bacterial genus is done by comparing the results of characterization with Bergeys’s Manual of Determinative Bacteria 9th . The genera have been identified from the nine isolates include genus Agrobacterium, genus Acetobacter, genus Planococcus, genus Syntrophospora, and genus Cristispira. Of the nine genera, 3 genera were selected, namely genus Acetobacter, genus Agrobacterium and genus Cristispira to test degradation of detergent waste by inoculating bacterial isolates into NB 0.4% containing detergent waste. The ability of bacteria to degrade detergent waste can be seen from the change in color in media. Observation of color changes is carried out for 72 hours every 24 hours. Besides being seen from the color change, measurements were also made using a spectrophotometer at a wavelength of 350 nm for 72 hours and measured every 24 hours. These three genera are able to degrade detergent waste.
