Abstract

Semau is a small island located approximately 2.5 km from the mainland of Timor. This island has an area of 261 km2. The total number of bird species recorded on Semau Island in previous studies was 112 including endemic, limited distribution, and shorebirds. From ornithological data in Semau, it is known that there is no specific bird species research in the Silatu Forest Area, Uustom village. The purpose of this study was to determine the species richness and relative abundance of bird species in Silatu Forest Area. The method used is a list of Mackinnon species, the number of species listed is 14 species. From the results of the study there were 33 species of birds from 22 families in which 3 species namely oriental honey-buzzard (Pernis ptilorhynchus), Black Cuckoo-dove (Turacoena modesta) and Grey-tailed Tattler (Tringa Brevipes) were not recorded in previous studies. The highest IKR value was on Barred dove (Geopelia maugeus), with a value of 0.857. While the species of birds that have the lowest IKR are Collared kingfisher birds (Todiramphus chloris), Tahiti swallow (Hirundo tahitica), Scaly-breasted munia (Lonchura punctulata), Grey-tailed Tattler (Tringa brevipes), Brown booby (Sula leucogaster), Island monarch (Monarcha cinerascens), Wallacean cuckooshrike (Coracina personata), Black cuckoo-dove (Turacoena modesta) and Plain gerygone (Gerygone inornata) with a IKR value of 0.071.
