Abstract

The cognitive process in mathematical investigation consists of four stages, namely: specialization, estimation, proof, and inference. Research conducted is qualitative research. Data is collected through the provision of mathematical investigation tasks (TIM) and interviews after the subject completes the TIM. Credible research data obtained by the time triangulation method. Data analysis was carried out in three stages, namely data reduction, data presentation and data inference. The results showed that subjects with high mathematical abilities could carry out the four stages of the mathematical investigation process. Subjects with moderate mathematical ability can only go through two stages of the investigation process, namely the specialization and estimation stages. While subjects with low mathematical abilities can only pass the specialization stage.
