Abstract

The inquiry approach is a teaching approach that seeks to lay the foundation and develop scientific ways of thinking, this approach places students more self-learning, develops creativity in solving problems. The main problem in this research is how the application of guided inquiry approaches to the subject matter of the Geometry Optics of the students of class XI MIA2 even semester of SMAK Sint Carolus Penfui - Kupang? Specifically, this problem can be formulated as follows: 1) How was the teacher's ability to manage learning activities by applying a guided inquiry approach to the subject matter of Geometry Optics? 2) How was the completeness of the learning outcome indicator by applying the guided inquiry approach to the subject matter of Geometry Optics? 3) How were the learning outcomes of students in learning applying the guided inquiry approach to the subject matter of Geometry Optics? 4) What was the response of students to the learning implementation activities by applying guided inquiry approach to the subject matter of Geometry Optics? The main objective in this study was to describe the guided inquiry approach to the subject matter of Geometry Optics of students of class XI MIA2 even semester of SMAK Sint Carolus Penfui – Kupang. Specifically, the purpose specifically, the purpose of this study were; 1) To describe the ability of teachers to manage learning activities by applying guided inquiry approaches to the subject matter of Geometry Optics. 2) To describe the completeness of learning outcome indicators by applying guided inquiry approach to the subject matter of Geometry Optics. 3) To describe the learning outcomes of students in learning that apply guided inquiry approaches to the subject matter of Geometry Optics. 4) To describe the response of students to the implementation of learning by applying guided inquiry approaches to the subject matter of Geometry Optics. This type of research was descriptive research and the subject of this research was the teacher (researcher) and students of class XI MIA2 of SMAK Sint Carolus Penfui – Kupang in the school year of 2017/2018 totaling 23 people. The learning tools used were students' teaching materials (BAPD), syllabus, Lesson plan (RPP), student worksheets (LKPD).Research data collection techniques were observation, tests and questionnaires. While the instrument used in this study was the observation sheet of learning management by applying the guided inquiry approach to the subject matter of Geometry Optics, Learning Outcomes Test (THB) and students' response sheet. Subject selection techniques using purposive sampling techniques. The research design used One- Group Pretest-posttest design. Data collection techniques are observation, tests, and questionnaires. The result of the descriptive analysis of the research data were obtained: (1) The ability of the teacher to manage learning activities that included learning planning, implementation of learning, and evaluation of learning was good with the average score of 3.69; 3.78; 3.53. (2) The preparation learning outcome indicators of students were complete with the average proportion of completeness for indicators of cognitive learning outcomes, indicators of affective learning outcomes and indicators of psychomotor learning outcomes were 0.86; 0.90; 0.88. (3) The learning outcomes of students were completed with the average proportion for cognitive, affective, and psychomotor learning outcomes tests respectively 0.86; 0.89; 0.88. (4) The response of students to the learning process was very good with an average percentage gain of 87%.
