Abstract
The purpose of this study is to find out how to understand the concept of student fractions based on gender This type of research is a qualitative descriptive study with data collection techniques carried out by selecting subjects that is interviewing mathematics subject teachers and also looking at students' midterm math report card report cards. After obtaining subjects based on gender(three men and three women) with high, medium, and low abilities then the researcher gives the problem solving task (TPM) to students to work on after which an interview is conducted about the student's work. Rating is based on the students' understanding of the concept of the three indicators, namely translation (translation), exegesis (interpretation), extrapolation (extrapolation). The results of this study indicate that the understanding of the concept of fractions of students by gender (male and female) with high ability students have the same ability, are having the same ability, and have the same low ability, but in working on the TPM the six subjects have differences namely each subject requires different work time according to their understanding and comprehension.
