Abstract

The study isconducted to answer the following questions: 1) What is the writing ability level ofthe eleventh grade students of SMK Negeri Ile Boleng?2)What are the difficultiesencountered by the eleventh grade students ofSMK Negeri Ile Boleng?Theobjectives of the study are as follows: 1) To find out and to know the level ability theeleventh grade students of SMK Negeri Ile Boleng in theschool year 2019/2020 inwriting. 2) To find out and to know the difficulties encountered by the eleventh gradestudents of SMK Negeri Ile Boleng in writing. The researchapproach is descriptivemethod. The subject of this study is the students of SMK Negeri Ile Bolengin theschool year 2019/2020. The results of the study showed that: 1)The ability level ofthe eleventhgrade students of SMK Negeri Ile Bolengin the school year 2019/2020in writing descriptive textis 15.21regarded asverygood level inwriting.Based onthe distribution of the students’ ability in writing descriptive text it can be seen that11(57.90) got Excellent level, 8(42.10) students got very good level ability, nostudent got good level of ability, no student got average level ofability and no studentgot excellent, below average, and bad. 2) The difficulties faced by the students weregrammar in using simple present tense, and incorrect spelling.Based on the result ofthe study the writer would like to propose some suggestionsas follows: 1)Thestudents of SMK Negeri Ile Boleng need to enrich themselvesby mastering Englishspellingin order to write a paragraph more easily. 2) Grammatical rule is another important thing they have to master. The students need to know the grammatical rulesin writing descriptive text. 3) Grammatical rule is another important thing they haveto master. In this case, they don’t need to be a perfect student in mastering all English grammatical rules but enough to understand well some general rules, like using auxiliary words and conjuction that deal with general knowledge in writing paragraph including descriptive paragraph. 4) The students of SMK Negeri Ile Boleng need toread English text more because by reading English text, the students can enrichthe ability in vocabulary, form and improve the grammatical rules in the writing practice
