Abstract

Culture is the wealth of a particular nation or ethnic group.Culture is a legacy of values and ethics from ancestors that need to be preserved and not lost. Lamaholot culture which is none other than national identity becomes the identity and differentiator of Lamaholot people with other ethnic groups.Judging from the fact now, the cultural value and local identity of Lamaholot has begun to recede and fade with time and science and technology. The younger generation began to think that culture is something that is ancient, something that is left behind and does not need to be known. Moving from this anxiety, began to be thought about to create a container or place for the growth and development of Lamaholot culture and most importantly its education to young people who would become the successors of the nation and state. Answering that, the Lamaholot cultural center is the best solution, because there is a place for learning both knowledge, dancing and crafts that are inseparable from Lamaholot Culture and its location in the city of Kupang. In general, the objectives to be achieved in writing this final project paper is to design the concept of a Lamaholot Cultural Center in Kupang City as a place capable of accommodating the activities of preservation, development and education of Lamaholot culture to all those who want to know the culture of Lamaholot and the young generation of Lamholot in particular. The concept of emphasizing the shape of the Lamaholot Cultural Center refers to the application of the Lamaholot vernacular architectural transformation. The transformation of the vernacular Lamaholot architecture is present as an approach and at the same time a design reference in order to be able to maintain the shape and appearance of the building so that it still reflects the traditional Lamaholot building so that its local and cultural impression is always felt by anyone who comes and visits to this Lamaholot Cultural Center.
