Abstract

This study aims to determine the students’ conceptual understanding of set operating material. The method used in this study was Descriptive Qualitative and this study was conducted at SMPN 5 Kupang on Mey 2019 with the subject taken from the seventh grade students class B. The method in this study was a concept understanding test and interview. The concept understanding test are given to 32 students and after consulting with the teacher 3 students were chosen who would do the test again and be interviewed based on the predetermined criteria. The concept understanding test and interview were conducted twice and to test the validity of the data, time triangulation was used. The results of the study showed that from 3 subjects there was a lack of understanding concepts in set operating material. The lack of understanding the concept was found when the subject was unable to rich several indicators of understanding the concept,namely developing necessary requirements, sufficient requirements for a concept as well as using, utilizing, and selecting certain procedures or operations.
