Abstract

This research is entitled "Reduplication in Larantuka Malay". This study focuses on the reduplication that occurs in each word class in this language. This study discusses various types and forms of reduplication and the different meanings from the reduplication in Larantuka Malay. The purpose of this research is to describe various forms or types and the meanings of reduplication in Larantuka Malay. The method used is descriptive qualitative. To obtain the data, the writer uses the elicitation technique. The instrument used is a list of words from all word classes. All data are analyzed in the basic form of words that get affixes and the form of repeated words. All word classes that undergo reduplication process are adjusted to the basic form and arranged separately to facilitate further analysis.The findings of this research show that the forms or types of reduplication are, full reduplication, partial reduplication, reduplication with the change of vowel, change of consonants, and change with consonant with affixes.There are also pre categorial words that by reduplication process they can be grouped in certain word classes. Precategorial words are there that have not included in any forms classes by reduplication process they can be included in a certain forms class.
