Abstract

Indonesia is entering a period of aging population, where there is an increase in life expectancy followed by an increase in the number of elderly people. Data from the Central Statistics Agency of East Nusa Tenggara Province (2017) there is only 1 nursing home in Kupang City, namely Budi Agung Kupang social home. The condition of the building is old and does not meet the requirements or building standards with the function of the building as a social institution. In addition, the level of comfort, security, psychological health, and the level of happiness of the elderly have not been realized. The purpose of writing this paper is to make the Planning and Design of the Tresna Werdha Budi Agung Social Home, which is to design a fostered environment for orphanage services in accordance with the standards governing housing for the elderly so that the orphanage can have a proper building and fostered environment in accordance with the needs and behavior patterns of the elderly. As for providing support facilities for elderly activities so that the elderly feel safe and comfortable and increase the happiness and psychological health of the elderly. The concept of behavioral architecture approach will be applied in the process of planning and designing a new nursing home. This approach leads to the planning and design of a new architectural environment that can accommodate behavioral patterns in accordance with the required activities. By understanding the characteristics of the elderly, it is hoped that they can create buildings that have a comfortable and safe atmosphere and can improve the psychological health of the elderly.
