Abstract
This study is entitled A STUDY ON THE ABILITY IN WRITING RECOUNT TEXT OF THE TENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMAK GIOVANNI KUPANG IN THE SCHOOL YEAR 2015/2016. This study was held to find the answer of two question. (1) Are the tenth grade students of SMAK Giovanni Kupang in the school year 2015/2016 able to write recount text? (2) What is the ability level of the tenth grade students of SMAK Giovanni Kupang in the school year 2015/2016 in writing recount text?. The objectives of this study are (1) to find out whether the tenth grade students of SMAK Giovanni Kupang in the school year 2015/2016 are able to write recount text or not. (2) To find out the ability level of the tenth grade students of SMAK Giovanni Kupang in the school year 2015/ 2016 in writing recount text. The writer chose language class consisting of 26 students to become the subject of this study, 6 students from them didn’t come at the time of research, so only 20 students treated as the subject of this study. The instrument used for this research was writing test. The writer asks the students to write recount text by choosing one of the prepared topics. The topics are My Terrible Experience, My Holiday, My first Love, and My interesting experience. Based on the analysis the writer can conclude that: (1) The tenth grade students of SMAK Giovanni Kupang in the school year 2015/2016 able to write recount text. (2) ) The ability level of the tenth grade students of SMAK Giovanni Kupang in the school year 2015/2016 in writing recount text is “Excellent”. Besides, the writer found that there were 10 students getting the highest score 11-12 (Excellent), there were 7 students geting 9-10 (Very Good), there were 3 student getting 7-8 (Good), and were 0 student getting 5-6 (Average), 3-4 (Belowe Average) 1-2 (Bad). Therefore the writer suggest (1) The teacher should give explanation to the students about the generic structure in write recount text and the purpose of recount text.(2)The teacher should give more attention on the teaching of grammar especially the use of past verb (V2) in sentences.
