Abstract

Kat is very inherent in the daily life of the people of East Nusa Tenggara (hereinafter referred to as NTT) because its value is not only limited to the body scopes butalsohas become one of the identity that characterizes its users. This is reflected by the colors, patterns and motifs depicted on every woven of NTT people. In this increasingly modern era, beside the use of woven fabric that has been more flexible, its existence also become more exposed to the outside world. Some of the problems that then arise are unilateral duplication by people from outside the NTT community, while the readiness in terms of ownership status is still somewhat less. In addition, the cultural shift towards the modern make ikat craft that was inherited from generation to generation has diminished among the younger generation even just to get to know. Furthermore, instrumental things like the existence of architectural containers that are provided specifically as a place to obtain information about ikat of NTT is still not enough compared to the number of ikat’s variant. Responding to these problems, came the idea of designing Ikat Museum Province of East Nusa Tenggara as the center of archiving, assessment and development of ikat NTT. The concept of grouping thematic galleries based on NTT islands purposed to introduce and educate the general public about the diversity of ikat motifs and shades as well as being an appreciation for every ethnicity in NTT.
