Abstract

During the COVID-19 endemic period, the learning proscess is limited to prevent trasmission of the virus. Schools conduct limited online and offline learning so that the learning proscess non effective. This study aims to describe the mathematical communication skills of junior high school students on arithmetic operation in algebraic forms. This research is a type of qualitative research. Data collection techniques used were observation tests and interviews. Data collection instruments were in the form of mathematical communication ability test questions and interview guidelines based on four mathematical communication indicators used, namely understanding the mathematical ideas of the problems given, using symbols and making mathematical models, expressing strategies, using strategies in solving and making conclusions. From the results of test and interview conductedon the mathematical communication skills test I and II, the subjects were able to work correctly and explain the completion process according to what was being done. The results showed that of the 6 research subjects, 5 subjects were able to fulfill all four indicators of mathematical communication and 1 subjects only met one indicator of mathematicaal communication.
