Abstract
The traditional ritual in the Reba ceremony is a traditional thanksgiving party whichis done by the ancestors to honor uwi (sweet potato) or Reba is a formof expressionof gratitude to the ancestors and creators for the harvests obtained during the periodof a year. The formulation of the problem in this study is: What is the meaningof OUwi's singing in the traditional ritual of Reba Ruto, Warupele I Village, InerieDistrict, Ngada Regency. The aim of this study are: to find out the meaningof OUwi's singing in the traditional ritual of Reba Ruto, Warupele I Village, InerieDistrict, Ngada Regency. The method in this research is qualitative. The methodused is a field study using data collection techniques in the formof interviews, documentation studies and literature studies. The results showed that the Rebaceremony was a form of gratitude for the harvest that was obtained for a year. Andin the traditional Reba ritual, the Ruto community sings the song O Uwi. OUwi is asong that functions to accompany the O Uwi dance at the Reba ceremony(traditional feast). This song is also a form of expression of gratitude totheancestors and creators for the harvests obtained during the year. In general, thesinging form of O Uwi in Ngada is the same, only in the Inerie sub-district, especially Ruto village, the singing form is slightly different. The difference lies inthe solo song. Generally, O Uwi's solo has the main character, namely Sili AnaWunga (the eldest child) while the Inerie area has the main character called bythenames: Doko Me'e Medua, Ruba Ne'e Raja, Ega Ne'e Desa (traditional stakeholderswho pioneered Reba's party on the Ruto ethnicity). The following difference lies inthe Reba ritual itself, where the traditional ritual of Ruto village begins withONgapa (the opening rite of the Reba party) while other areas close with OLuka (theclosing rite of the Reba party). In addition to being a song used to call sweet potatoes, in O Uwi's Song itself, there are many poems that have certain meaningsand functions, namely as a means of unifying, as a means of communication, as ameans of entertainment, and as revealing history. The results of the research canbeconcluded that the Reba ceremony aims as a traditional thanksgiving party handeddown by the ancestors to honor uwi (sweet potato)). In the Reba ceremony itself, there is the O Uwi song, which is the song used to accompany the OUwi danceduring the Reba ceremony. In addition, this song functions as a unifying tool, ameans of communication, a means of entertainment and a means of revealinghistory. The suggestion that the writer wants to convey to the reader is that thisarticle can add more knowledge about the culture in Ngada, especially the WarupeleI Village.
