Abstract

The formulation of the problem in this paper is how the Department of Cleanliness and Environment controls waste in Larantuka City. The theory used in solving this problem is the theory of waste control from the Department of Cleanliness and Environment of Larantuka City. This research uses a descriptive method. Primary data sources are informants while secondary data sources are documents related to research variables. Data collection techniques used are interviews, observation and documentation. The results showed that waste control from the Sanitation and Environment Office of Larantuka City is still not optimal, this can be seen from aspects (1) There are regulations regarding waste management but their implementation is still not optimal, while the sanctions for violating regulations are light sanctions (oral and written sanctions), there are no severe sanctions (money fines) so that it does not cause a deterrent effect. (2) The existence of infrastructure facilities such as garbage collection tanks, waste transportation equipment, final waste processing sites with a controlled landfill processing system. Regarding infrastructure facilities such as garbage collection tanks, waste transport equipment in Larantuka City is still inadequate, while TPA with a controlled landfill processing system has overcome the waste problem in Larantuka City. (3) There are socialization activities regarding waste handling regulations. Regarding the socialization activities, the Larantuka City Cleanliness and Environment Office has carried out. The public's response to the socialization of these regulations varies. The suggestions given are (1) Local Governments need to create and provide strict sanctions related to waste management so that they can provide a deterrent effect for people who violate. (2) The Department of Cleanliness and Environment of the City of Larantuka needs to improve the means of handling waste, such as garbage collection tanks and waste transportation equipment. (3) The Office of Cleanliness and Environment of Larantuka City needs to improve the quality and quantity of its employees, especially the number of officers who transport waste. (3) The Office of Cleanliness and Environment of Larantuka City needs to teach the community how to recycle waste.
