Abstract

The title of this study is “A Study on the Effectiveness of Using Audio Media in Teaching Speaking to The Tenth Grade Students of SMAN6 Kupang in The School Year 2014/2015”. This study was conducted in order to find out whether the audio is effective or not in teaching speaking to the tenth grade students of SMAN6 Kupang in the school year 2014/2015. In order to achieve the objective, Classroom Action Research (CAR) was used as the research design. This study focuses on the use of audio media in teaching speaking to the tenth grade students at SMAN 6 Kupang in the school year 2014/2015. The writer tried to analyze the students’ improvement in speaking after being taught using audio media. This study was conducted in two cycles in which each cycle consisted of four steps namely Planning, Action, Observation and Reflection. The writer used test (oral test) and observation sheet to gather the data. This study was conducted in SMAN6 Kupang. The writer chose Class X A. The write choose 20 students as the sample on this study. In both cycles, the writer conducted teaching learning process by using audio as teaching media. After the process, the writer gave the test to the students. After analyzing the process the writer found that the use of audio is effective in teaching speaking to the tenth grade students of SMAN 6 Kupang in the school year 2014/2015. The effectiveness of this Media is indicated by the improvement of students’ average score from Cycle 1 to Cycle 2. In the post-test 1, the average score is 3.92. It is classified as advance ability level. And in the posttest 2, the average score is 5.16. It is classified as high advance ability level. Based on classroom action research that has been done, the writer would like to offer some suggestions as stated in the following lines. 1)For English Teacher can continue and develope teaching media by using audio media in teaching and learning process. 2)For the Students,the students can improve their speaking ability outside the class by using the audio media such as listening to the music, radio or movies. 3)For Other Researcher, they can develop research in innovative and comprehensive to over come limitations experienced researcher for research.
