Abstract

The study is entitled “An Analysis on Figurative Language in Seu-Lalu Sebha in Ngada Language”. This study was conducted to answer the following questions. (1) What kinds of figurative expressions are found in Seu-Lalu Sebha? (2) What are the meanings of figurative expressions found in Seu-Lalu Sebha? The research is intended to investigate the meaning of figurative expressions of the Ngada traditional song” Seu-Lalu Sebha”. The result of the study is useful for both academic world and practical life of the society, especially the Ngada Language Speakers (SLS). To inspire the study, a number of previous related studies were reviewed. To easily understand, direct, and limit the discussion of the study, a number of basic concepts were defined. In analyzing the data, the theory of semantic and literature was applied. The study is qualitative. The data were obtained through translating the lyric of the song, and note taking. The data were analyzed through steps of transcribing, listing the sentences, translation and interpretation. The result of the data analysis is informally described or verbally described. In line with the problem statement, there found two kinds of figurative expressions of Traditional Song “Sau-Lalu Sebha” The meaning of the traditional song is figurative. It contains the suggestion and hopes of the people of Ngada especially for the young couple to be good parent for their children. The figurative expressions cover simile, metaphor. In accordance with significance and the finding of the study some suggestion are proposed. (1) The linguistic researchers are hoped to do continued study to confirm and extend. (2) Other researcher candidates are suggested to design and to conduct other researcher focusing on figurative expressions used in any other kinds of traditional and cultural discourse in Ngada language highlighted from the theory of cultural linguistics. (3) The speakers of Ngada language are suggested to keep singing the traditional song in Ngada Language and to attempt to know and practice the use of figurative expressions.
