Abstract

The main problem in this study is how student’ mathematical reasoning ability in solving story problem subject integers catholic junior high school class VIIIA Isidorus Besikama. The purpose of this study is to describe student’ mathematical reasoning ability in solving story problem subject integers catholic junior high school class VIIIA Isidorus Besikama. The results of this study are expected to be useful as an input for the teachers in taking certain steps to improve student’ mathematical reasoning abilities in solving story problems. This research is a descriptive qualitative date collection techniques to provide test questions, interview and documentation. This study used three students of class VIIIA catholic junior high school Isidorus Besikama, with one high-ability students, one students are capable of being and one low-ability students. The data analysis is done by reducing the date, present the date and make inferences. Results of the study revealed that student’ mathematical reasoning abilities in solving word problems subject different integers as follows: a) the mathematical reasoning ability of high-ability subjects in solving story problems integer in writing is exceptionally high because it controls the five indicators reasoning capabilities mathematics. b) The ability of mathematical reasoning ability students in solving story problem were the subject of an integer in writing is high because it controls the four indicators of mathematical reasoning abilities. c) The ability of low-ability students' mathematical reasoning in solving story problem in writing is low because only the master indicator mathematical reasoning abilities first. Based on these results, it is expected that the junior high school mathematic teacher of catholic junior high school Isidorus Besikama, to further enhance the ability of student mathematical reasoning in solving story problem with many providing practice questions, especially on the material integers requiring reasoning abilities of student in solving the problem.
