Abstract

This research was conducted to find out the error and its cause of students for solving mathematics word problem. This research was conducted at SMPN 2 Amanuban Barat grade VIII-2 that consist 3 students with low rate ability. This research using test and interview technique. The validity of data done by triangulation of time, namely comparing the results of test and interview at the first and second problem solving. This research using newman’s error analysis. The technique of analysis was conducted by correcting the result of student’s work for analyzing student’s error, analyzing the result of student’s interview to find out the cause of error and the conclusion. The result of the research is, student’s did error comprehention, transformation, process skill and encoding. The cause of student’s error is the lack of understanding the concept, inaccuracy, less skilled how to count, did the test fastly, and they didn’t want to study
