Abstract
Culture is defined as beliefs that have social values in a certain community environment. One of the elements in culture is art. Art is the embodiment of culture a certain role for society and also one of the types of human needs related to the expression of a sense of beauty. Every region in Indonesia has distinctive and unique traditional arts, one of which is regional art in North Central Timor Regency, especially dance. Dance is one of the performing arts that has existed for a long time or has been present from ancient times and has developed to the present. In dance, symbolic beauty in dance is not only in the expression of movement or form, but in the whole form of a dance embodiment that includes movement, accompaniment, makeup, clothing, accessories, and all supporting aspects, as well as a traditional community dance in North Central Timor Regency, especially Nimasi Village, namely gong dance which requires symbolic meaning. Gong dance is a traditional dance used by the people of North Central Timor in traditional ceremonies, forms of thanksgiving, and welcoming guests. To analyze the meaning, symbolic, costumes, properties, and accessories of gong dance using qualitative descriptive methods. Data are obtained through observation and interviews and documentation. The results of the study found that in general, the symbolic meaning of costumes, accessories and gong dance properties is the identity of the people of North Central Timor which is presented into symbols such as the image of the jagged box motif meaning abundant blessings, the image of the flower motif continuously symbolizing, caste.
