Abstract

Indonesia government always makes efforts to increase the quality of education. The effort to increase the quality of education is done for all subjects which is one of them is mathematics. However, the quality of education is still far from the expectation which is caused by the use of lecture method in the process of teaching learning so that it does not really motivate students to learn mathematics, it also makes many students passive and do not want to take part in the process of teaching learning. From the above description is a central issue in this study is whether PQ4R effective learning strategies to improve student learning outcomes in mathematics subject integers Ruteng Immaculata junior class VII. Based on the above problem the authors conducted action research in order to determine the effectiveness of the learning outcomes of students taught math by learning strategies PQ4R subject integers Ruteng Immaculata junior class VII. Who is the subject of this research is VIIC class researchers and students Ruteng Immaculata junior academic year 2013/2014. Sources of data in this study is the observation data of teachers ability to manage learning and student activity sheets obtained through observation sheets, student learning outcomes data, and questionnaire data obtained through student responses student questionnaire responses. The research was conducted in two cycles. Procedures performed at each cycle is the preparation, action, observation and evaluation, and reflection. Reflections on each cycle results serve as reference material for the next cycle. The results generally show an increase. The average level of teacher's ability to manage the learning has increased from the first cycle to the second cycle of 0.2. The average activity of students has increased from the first cycle to the second cycle of 0.28. The average completeness of student learning outcomes also increased, amounting to 20%. Response of students towards learning is also positive. Based on these results, the authors concluded that the learning strategy can PQ4R declared effective because it is supported by the achievement of indicators of the effectiveness of the teacher's ability to manage learning, student activities in learning, mastery learning outcomes and students' response to learning that are included in both categories
