Abstract

The main problem in this research is in the process of learning mathematic in general is using conventional learning namely lecture. In this lecture conventional study method, student has same opportunity for listening teacher’s explanation. However students tend to become bored and have difficulty to understand concept, as result students learning achievement is low. Therefore, a teacher must be able to apply a learning model which can actively involve students in the classroom. Both Discovery Learning models and Problem Based Learning models are using group discussions. This study aimed to compare the learning achievement of mathematics which taught using Discovery Learning models and Problem based Learning models, on subject permutation at grade XI students even semester at public High School 3 Kupang academic year 20115/2015. Data used in this research pretest and posttest mark of first class Discovery Learning and second class Problem Based Learning. Collected data were using SPSS version 22. Prior to hypothesis test, a prerequisite test using pretest mark was conducted to see similarity of both sample classes. While data posttest mark was used for hypothesis test using independent sample test. Result of analysis of pretest data is obtained the value Sig.(2-tailed) = 0.925 > 0,05 and = 0,095 < = 2,002 then receive Ho. So it is concluded that there was no difference in the ability on the both of sample classes. While for posttest it is obtained value Sig.(1-tailed) = 0,000 < 0,05 and = 5,196 > = 1,671 then reject Ho. So it is concluded that learning achievement in mathematics taught using Discovery Learning model is better then Problem based Learning model, on subject permutation at grade XI students even semester at public High School 3 Kupang academic year 2014/2015.
